This is a wall-mounted work

This wooden dwarapalaka or door guardian is shown holding a mace in one hand. The beauty of this simple vertical sculpture is the manner in which the foliage is shown in the background. It appears as though the leaves emanate creating an aureole for the subject. In a very unusual manner a large flower is placed at the centre behind the head making it take the place of a nimbus.
